Eight Hours on a Plane

Image
Hello Everybody! How are you all doing? This is all very weird, I almost feel like I don't belong here. I feel purposeless, and that I need to get to work. I hope I'll be able to adjust to being a service missionary soon. My last days in Honduras all went by so fast. I worked as hard as I could, but the problem is that there just wasn't very much work to do! On Monday, just about all of our visits fell through because nobody was home. My last work day (Christmas Day) also didn't have as much work as I thought it would because the zone council went a lot longer than normal. We spent so much time waiting for our food from Pollolandia. The food itself was awful. Never eat there. No wonder Ostlers tell us not to! I spent a little bit of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day packing and cleaning. I also did have some fun times playing games with the missionaries there although I didn't win much. The night of Christmas Eve we were trying to teach our friends Martha and Eliana M...

(Not Quite) Home for Christmas

Image
That's right, I'm going home. It's all happened so fast, that I don't know what to think or feel. I'll be switching to a service mission due to health reasons, and I don't know if I'll go back to proselyting. There's a lot of things I don't know, but I know that it's the right step to take. I'll be going home Thursday, so I won't quite be back for Christmas, but I'm spending it well here! Here they celebrate more on the 24th than Christmas day. I'm trying to be as consecrated as possible. I have one full day of work left here, and I'm going to work as hard as I can. Also, I found out that the husband of the Relief Society President is a gang boss. So that's why we can't go in her house, and how they're so rich. Merry Christmas everybody! I hope you all remember the reason for the season. Something that's weird here is that there are a surprisingly large amount of people that don't celebrate Christmas. The...

Christmas Time

Hello everybody! I kicked a dog. Yes, I did. I absolutely do not regret it. It happened Thursday. Elder Valdovinos and I were waiting to go inside a house for a lesson with our friend Melvin, because his family went to go get him. There was his old, half blind (in his right eye), grandpa who we'd met a couple days before trying to eat outside of the family's pulperia. There were two dogs trying to steal his food. We "shoo-ed" them away, but one kept coming back. It eventually started growling and barking at us. At one point it suddenly ran under the bench the old guy was sitting on and was up against the wall. We got right up close to each other. It tried to bite me, and I kicked it right in the chin with my combat boot! It felt so good. I absolutely hate the dogs here. 10/10 would recommend kicking an aggressive and annoying street dog near you. On Wednesday I went on exchanges with Elder Murphy. It was really good. Although, Elder Rosario (his companion) planned t...

Two Exchanges

Image
Hello everybody! This week has been fun as usual. We found out that there are only 3 missionaries (all sisters) coming to the mission this transfer, so my companion won't get to train, which is sad for him. I can't help but wonder if I'll go somewhere else this transfer, and if so, where? I went on two exchanges this week, one with the district leader and the other with a zone leader. I heard we might also do them next week. I hope not. I just want to prepare this area so that if I leave next transfer, then it'll be ready for whoever comes. First with the District Leader Elder Rosario. It was good. I was leading the area and got along decently well. I only wish that he would have waited for me to finish explaining if we knew the people inside a house first before going right up to it and loudly greeting "Buenas!", and then going on to introduce us and ask if she'd already talked with the missionaries. If he would've just waited, then I could have tol...

Giving Thanks?

Hello everybody! This week had a lot of things happen, but only earlier in the week because I got sick. Tuesday, we had multizone conference. It was awesome. President shared some wisdom he'd collected from a meeting with Elder Christofferson. Very nice. Main takeaway was to study the simplest things, like the scriptures and General Conference. I'd highly recommend it. I had a birthday and two Thanksgiving dinners. That was all very nice. Got sick after Thanksgiving. That was not nice. I'm sorry this one is so short. I'll do better next week. Take care everyone! May God bless you! Sincerely, Elder Cobian.
