Week 6

Image
Hello everybody! This last week has been pretty interesting. It's rained a lot! A couple days ago one district along with my own went outside after all our classes and played around in the rain. It was fun. I'm pretty sure I'm one of the only ones who didn't get their socks wet because I didn't run through the water pouring off of the roof of our classroom. We've also got a musical number our district is performing in church this Sunday which I'm super excited about! Elder Stander (one of the elders in our district) is majoring in music composition, and has put together a great version of the hymn "The Lord is my Shepard". He went so far as to add parts from the "Savior of the World" production, other scriptures, and changed lyrics! I'm very excited about it, and pray that we'll bring the Spirit. I get to sing a little solo in our number. It's kinda weird this is my last week here. I hope I'll get to email within a week, b...

Week 5

Image
Hello everybody! This week has had a few very interesting experiences. I auditioned for and got to perform a musical piece for Devotional this Tuesday. The piece was "I Know that my Savior Loves Me" with the first verse in English, and the second one in Spanish. In the performance I had the music on my phone for convenience. In the transition between verses, my phone turned off! I turned it back on in time, but the music wasn't there. It turns out that the Sacred Music app doesn't work the same as Gospel Library in downloading anything that you look at (I had wifi turned off because they ask us to for Devotional). So I had to close the app, turn on wifi, reopen the app, search up the music, and switch the language to Spanish. When it was time for the second verse, I started singing " I don't remember the words"  in Spanish ( no recuerdo las palabras ). People laughed  a little, and then it was a bit awkward as I scrambled for the words. I am very bless...

Week 4

Image
Hello everybody! This week has been mostly uneventful. I've gotten (mostly) better from being sick, which I'm very grateful for. We've had some very good devotionals, the most recent of which Elder and Sister Douglas of the Seventy came to speak to us! My personal notebook that Mr. Baldwin gave to me at my graduation is almost full. My Spanish skills are still coming very slowly, but I am finally starting to understand some of the things that my parents have told me in Spanish as I've grown up. This week I did some service folding laundry (the bedsheets from here at the CCM). On the way to do the service, it rained a lot for a couple minutes. It does not rain like that in Nevada. My district and I have most definitely been involved in some shenanigans which consist of me dirtying my hands with ink from dry-erase markers, musical productions, and taking goofy pictures of each other. Tomorrow I'm auditioning to sing in Devotional while Elder Stander accompanies me. Wi...

3rd P-day

Image
Hello Everybody, It hasn't been too long since I wrote, but I want to write a bit more since today is my actual P-Day. We got to go to the temple today! It was very cool. It's built to look like a Mayan or Aztec temple, and it's absolutely beautiful. It was an amazing experience to participate in temple ordinances in Spanish, although I do wish that we had had breakfast first. The bus to the temple left before we could eat breakfast. Don't get me wrong, the food has been good at the cafeteria (especially the tacos al pastor we had a week ago), but I think they were lying when they said that we wouldn't get food poisoning, but only get sick from not washing our hands. Several of my district members and I have had very similar symptoms to when Lili, my dad, and I got food poisoning when we last came to Mexico. Despite this, I still like the food. The learning experiences I've had here at the CCM have been very good, but also very tiring. I'm very glad for th...

Week 2

Image
Hello everybody! This week has been no less busy than the last, but without a doubt it has been much better. For our P-Day this week we only get three hours in the evening, but I'll get a better one next week. Classes have been much better in-person without a doubt. I've had some amazing spiritual experiences, and lots of fun. One thing I'm learning is that the Spirit can communicate even when I can't. I always feel the Spirit really strongly when one of our Spanish-speaking teachers teaches. I don't always understand his words, but the Spirit testifies that what he's saying is true. The food has been good. We've had some Mexican food and some American food. I would only consider one or two of the meals I've had to not have been very good. I've especially enjoyed having fresh mangos constantly and good things to drink. We've had some aguas frescas, horchata, and jamaica, which have all been pretty good. It is surprisingly dry here, so my knuckl...
