Gone with the Wind
Hi everyone!
I haven't had a working phone in a while, so it's been harder for me to do everything, but I am finally writing. If you don't have time to read this email, that's fine. The title sums it up really well. A few weeks ago, this is what I had written before my phone broke:
We got to go to the temple open house in Elko. We stayed overnight at my house in Starr Valley, got to shop at Walmart in Elko, and ate my dad's tacos. It was exciting.
We also got a lot of free food this week.
Of course we had 1 of our normal 3 dinners with just the Z's on Wednesday, but we had a ranch potluck on Monday for Labor day and a birthday party for Jennie Davis at a fancy restaurant of Friday. We also had a birthday party for Elder Enrico on Thursday, and my awesome Uncle Tabor got us free food at Rolberto's today. We also had our 5th Sunday church potluck last Sunday. Like I said: lots of free food.
Working was pretty similar to last week. I did a bit of bull thistle, lots of fixing handlines that the cows had broken, moving cows, and a little bit of mechanic work. I'm very glad that the heifers are now out of my handline field so that they don't break so much stuff.
The highlight of my week was definitely going to the temple open house and visiting my family!
This is all of what I had written until my phone broke. I'm able to send this through my old phone and another Elder's hotspot.
Here's what's been going on lately:
We did weaning in two batches. I don't know if I like it as a whole or not. It has lots of good and bad parts. I did learn how to castrate, which is good. I did not like calves trying to kick me while I castrated them.
Today we went on an awesome adventure with Breck (our ranch manager's son), where he showed us an amazing abandoned mineshaft! I absolutely loved it and want to go again.
One insight I'd like to share from my scripture study comes from Alma's teaching to the Zoramites. He taught that we can pray always: anytime, anywhere. Do we? That is something that I will start doing. I will make a conscious effort to keep a prayer in my heart and offer it to God. I hope that our relationship will become more clear and personal.
Sincerely,
Elder Cobián
