Ranch Tour and Honduran Missionary
Hello everybody! I hope your week is going well. Mine has gone by super fast, and it's been super fun!
First off, I got to do some family history work at my grandparents' house again. That's always been a favorite part of my week. I really missed them in Honduras, and I'm grateful for this time I've had to visit them very frequently. It's also been great to learn about my ancestors and their stories.
We got to have the Spanish Elders and the Wells Elders over for dinner on Tuesday. Before that, I went out with the Wells Elders to work. It turns out that there are lots of dogs to bark at us here too, just not nearly as many, and they're not as gross as they were in Honduras. Dinner was really good. We had baked potatoes with chili, bacon, and a whole host of other good toppings.
On Wednesday and Thursday I got to help with unpacking and distributing food at the Catholic church again. I really like working with the people there. They're very friendly. Sadly, I didn't get any grape juice this time because they had iced coffee instead.
English class on Wednesday was very small, as only Rosa came again. We did cut class short by a half hour so I could watch my brother Marcos do the audio effects for the middle-school play.
On Thursday, I also got to go out with the Spanish Elders. It went by super fast, even though most of the time was spent just trying to visit people that either weren't home or were pretending to not be home. I did class for Pathway, and the craziest thing happened! Our class got merged with another one (which will continue for the rest of the semester) and one of the learners from the other class served in the same mission I was in in Honduras! His name was Juan Medrano. He knew lots of the people I do, like President Ostler, Elder Nuñez, and Elder Vanderhorst. It was super cool to meet him! Also, there were lots of people at the institute class that night.
On Friday, I got to go to the Deseret Peak temple with my whole ward! It was very nice. It was also very nice that I got to ride home with my grandparents! They treated me to a chicken bake and hotdog from Costco. It was absolutely amazing.
Now these last couple of days, I got to go down to the Cleveland Ranch (a church ranch here in Nevada) with my cousin Morgan. He served there for his mission, so he gave me a tour of the place. I really liked it. I might go there to serve soon, which could be exciting.
I think that hard work is something that is intrinsically inclined with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We don't earn our way into heaven by just doing good things, but God does not encourage us to sit around and do nothing. A huge purpose of this life is to use our free will to choose. Oftentimes when we choose the right, it requires hard work. Hard work is also a great way to gain experience.
