Sad News, Iguanas for Dinner, and Axes
Hello everybody!
Sad news first: Our ward mission leader passed away. His name is Hermano Hinmer. He was in a severe accident with another motorcyclist on Saturday. We heard he died in the hospital Sunday morning. Please keep his family and the others affected by the accident in your prayers. Most people here cannot afford cars so they drive motorcycles.
We really need to find more people. I hope we can. Tuesday and Wednesday were basically extra P-Days because my companion was sick. I wish I had spent my time better, actually studied more like I had planned, but unfortunately I mostly just dinked around and wasted time.
I feel like there's some kind of pattern to us not having water, but I don't know. It seems to skip a few days and come back before, during, or after P-Day. So we didn't wash clothes until Thursday. I'm glad I have extra clothes and can handwash.
We've been visiting a lot of less-active members lately. I think we can get some of them back, but so many of them have fallen back into the habit of going to churches that don't need any commitments. I don't see how that makes sense. How can we call ourselves the Body of Christ if we don't expect Him to ask things of us?
Playing the piano for church is getting better. I was able to get through the songs on Sunday without any major train wrecks. The songs for the Primary program that I need to play for are coming along well. I love "I Will Walk With Jesus," but I don't have sheet music. We tried printing it off at the church, but couldn't get it to work. Maybe we can get a member to do that for us? I hope so.
We've had adventures this week! The first one was with Victor Manuel. He's our friend who recently got baptized, and he found us when he was (slightly) drunk. We then asked him to help us find an axe for Hermana Teadora. I accidentally broke her axe while chopping word for her last week, so we borrowed one from a neighbor. Fun times!
Also we might have eaten iguana this week. We went to a member's house for dinner. They're always busy, so they just hand us the food wrapped up and in a grocery bag to go. The meat was like rotisserie chicken, but tougher. The bones were shaped differently than chicken bones and harder.
I've started reading the book of Alma in the Book of Mormon! It's really good. Now actually having missionary experience, it's cool to see the same things in my life as they did then. Some things never change. Like the principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
That's all I've got. I hope you all are doing well. Take care, and may God bless you!
