Cat-Called, The Temple, and Baptism (and now sick)

Hello everybody! This week has been crazy, long and short, lots of cool stuff. This email is gonna be kinda short cause I've got food poisoning and feel awful.

Tuesday we went to the hospital because my companion hasn't been able to hear much out of his right ear. All they told him was to take more medicine and that it's probably an infection. He's on an antibiotic.

Wednesday was the 11th of September. I won't forget. We had pig feet for lunch. It was awful, and I hope I can forget that.

Thursday we went to La Cumbre, and there was some cool thunder from over the mountain. It made a crackling sound before the boom. We layer visited Fabiola, and Ruben (the drunk one that lives with his mom, not me) came up to us at least three times and left while we were trying to talk to Fabiola and her family. We promised to visit him afterwards, and we did. He was face-flat on the ground outside his house when we found him. Don't drink.

We went to Santa Ana on Friday. It was very busy because we had to hurry back to help at the church with a movie called "Oops." (The members pirated it off of YouTube, just like everything else.) It was weird. Wouldn't recommend it. I would recommend the juice and pastellitos (fried dumplings) they gave us.

Saturday we went to the San Pedro Sula Temple Open House On. It was so neat to go. We went with the ward, and our friend with a baptismal date (Fabiola) and her family on a bus. Something neat on the way to the temple, was that there was a semi-truck trailer that said Idaho Falls, ID on it! For those of you that don't know, Idaho Falls is very close to Rexburg, Idaho, where I went to BYU-I for a year. I hope to go back after finishing my mission.

The temple itself was amazing. From the pictures I'd seen, I thought it was longer, but it's not. It still is the biggest in Central America. But there is no such thing as a small temple. What matters is the ordinances performed there.

Yesterday was the baptism of Fabiola by my companion. Elder Brown also baptized some new members from San Juan. Sunday I loved the baptisms! It was good to see these good people make covenants with God in the name of Christ. Piano playing went well, and I'm so excited to learn "Come Lord Jesus" from "Savior of the World" is in the new hymnbook. It's absolutely one of my favorite songs. I hope after my mission I can be in "Savior of the World" again. Great play.

My spiritual thought comes from 2nd Nephi 25:23:

"For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do."

I wanna focus on that last part. We really can't save ourselves. We can't bear the weight of our own sins, or trials. But Jesus can. And He did. All that He asks of us is to do our best. We can never repay Him. Is that fair? Absolutely not. But it is all that He asks of us.

Hope you all are doing well. Not puking like I've been. Take care, and may God bless you.

Pictures are:

Elder Patón and me on the way to the Temple. He got to try Dr. Pepper for the first time.

Us with Fabiola's family. She's the girl on the right.

Us with the other Elders in our district (Brown and Estrada, guess which is which)

The pig feet. Never eat it. It's awful.
